As New Orleans' Times Picayune reported for krewedelusion's inaugural parade in 2010:

“krewedelusion distinguishes itself from all other organizations by taking the time-honored conceit of Carnival royalty and following it to its most literal and absurd endpoint... using the traditional structure of Mardi Gras as its own satirical platform... under the auspice of Carnival, to have the [Ruler] of the krewe actually be the leader of everything, to give [them] that power, you’re going to have something different than politics as usual!”
